A Life Well Lived

Raymond Lee Crossnine went to be with the Lord on August 11, 2025, following complications from a back injury. While we will miss him dearly, he is happily at peace in the true home that he sought throughout his life. Raymond was born on October 3, 1933, in Memphis, Tennessee, to parents Mike and Catherine and siblings Dee, Rosie, Gloria and Victoria. After graduating from high school, he worked on the assembly line at the Ford factory in Memphis. He later enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving in Germany from 1954 to 1956.

Upon returning home, Raymond attended Memphis State University and graduated in 1959 with a Bachelor's in Business Administration, completing his degree in an impressive three years and three months. Soon after, he began what would become a long and devoted career with the Social Security Administration, eventually retiring as the manager of the East Point office.

In 1964 Raymond married his first love, Anne, and had two beloved daughters, Carla and Amy. He cherished being a father and devoted himself to creating a joyful and loving home. Whether it was playing in the pool, dressing up as Santa each year, or welcoming each of Anne's pets, he made it a point of filling the girls' lives with warmth and laughter.

After the unfortunate passing of Anne in 2000 following a long battle with emphysema, Raymond was fortunate enough to meet the second love of his life, Janice, and enjoyed 9 happy years of marriage with her before her passing from cancer in 2011.

Raymond leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and gentleness. A truly wonderful person, he had a special gift for making everyone feel like a friend. Raymond's life was marked by service to others, and he was an active, engaged presence in his community. He volunteered faithfully with DSP Waypoint in Griffin and with Meals on Wheels, served on various neighborhood committees, and was deeply involved with his church.

Being a grandfather was one of Raymond's greatest joys. Just like with Carla and Amy, he poured his heart into making wonderful memories with his grandchildren. His yearlyfamily trips were something everyone looked forward to, bringing the whole family together and giving us moments we'll always hold close and be thankful for.

We will miss his gentle spirit and wise words more than we can say, but it brings us comfort to know he's now resting peacefully with his Heavenly Father. Raymond is survived by his daughter, Carla Gates, her husband, Scott, and their children Melissa, Hannah, Emily, and Jacob; his daughter, Amy Lindley, her husband, Rob, and their children Katie, Elizabeth, and Caroline; and his stepson, Buck, his wife, Alla, and their children Audrey and Cameron. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Oakley and Blakely; his sister, Rosie; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors who

will deeply miss him.

A service celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 Saturday, August 16 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Griffin, GA with a burial to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery, College Park, GA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the veteran's

organization DSPII Waypoint (www.DSPWaypoint.org).

Flag Raising Ceremony Sunday July 14, 2024 | 2:30pm

  • The nation’s flag serves as its identifying feature and sets it apart from other countries worldwide.

  • The flag is much more than simply a symbol. It serves as a visual representation of a person’s nationality and identity to the outside world.

  • The nation’s flag is more than simply cloth without meaning. They get involved with patriotic feelings.

  • Honoring the Nation’s flag is the primary goal of the flag-raising ceremony. It’s a means of expressing respect and love for one’s nation.

  • The most crucial stage of this ceremony is to honor the pennant.

  • It is more effective when kept silent during the ritual. This ritual is important because it reflects a citizen’s love for their country.

  • It’s one way to honor those who gave their lives in defense and protecting the nation.

  • It commemorates the nation’s emblem and all the dreams, hopes, and citizens it stands for.
